Chris Brown Talks Jail, Lean Addiction, Rihanna, & Drake with Ebro

Chris Brown
Chris Brown stopped by Hot 97′s “Ebro in the Morning” on Friday for an in-depth interview. The “Loyal” singer, who recently settled his lawsuits including the one in D.C., opened up about everything from his past with Rihanna to squashing his beef with Drake to his time in jail.
During his sit-down with Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez, Breezy admitted that he was unsure where his career would take him after jail. “Once you do that, it kinda makes you mature faster and see what’s really important and what your focus is and what you gotta do in your career,” he said.
It was Drake’s camp who initially reached out about the ESPYS skit. So far, Nicki’s single “Only” is the only collaboration the two have recorded. When asked if there will be more he said, “Hopefully. They gotta cut the check.”
The most Chris charges for a feature is $250,000, and he demands a cut of the publishing. “If I’ma give you a No. 1, I need to capitalize off it as well,” he said.
He claimed that he lost $20 million in endorsements due to his bad reputation, but said that he makes 50 percent of all sales off his album.
He and Trey Songz are gearing up to launch their joint tour. The tour does not have a title, but he has been considering “One Night Stand” and “The Morning After” as potential names for the two-hour show.
He also revealed that he was addicted to lean (“the hood cocktail”) and found it impairing his work. “I was turning up. I was off the syrup and Xanax,” he said. “It wasn’t conducive to me. I was falling asleep on video sets, I was cussing people out randomly, I was doing crazy stuff.”
Through his trials and tribulations, he’s learned to be comfortable in his own skin. “I don’t have to prove myself,” said Chris. “I’m comfortable being a singing, dancing, painting, great guy. I don’t have to be tough.”
Plus, hear what he had to say about his girlfriend of four-and-a-half years Karrueche Tran, battling Usher in a dance-off, and what he fears most.

On why he quit lean: “I don’t want to be a zombie when I go meet people or end up punching somebody or doing something crazy like I did ’cause I’m under the influence of some bull.”
On Karrueche: “She’s straight, man. I dig her. She’s dope. Being in this industry, you just need somebody that understands you and understands who you are personally [aside] from your name. At the end of the day, me and her have a real connection as best friends on top of our intimacy.”
On getting married: “I’m scared of marriage ’cause I’m young right now.”
On taking on Usher in a dance battle: “I’m fully confident in my ability. I never diss Usher ’cause Usher’s Usher. You gotta give him his props. His résumé is crazy. But my legs [are] a little fresher.”
On what he fears most: “I think my demons as of right now are being afraid of failure. I think my only demon is the doubt in myself sometimes. But I think that also makes me great at the same time.”
On Rihanna: “I don’t have animosity about it. Obviously I have remorse about it and it’s something that’s really serious. But as far as the situation, me and her, we made amends. We good. She my friend. I knew that was a mistake that I will never make again, but I take in consideration like, ‘Dang. I was 17, 18.’ I’m 25 now, so I look back at it like, ‘Dang.’ And I’m still doing community service and going to see the judge every month and a half.”
On why he got back together with Rihanna after the altercation: “I just wanted to make sure that [the love] was still there. I wanted to make amends to her, showing I could be the man that she [wanted me] to be.”
On his stand-off with Drake at an NYC nightclub in June 2012: “That was a stick-your-chest-out contest. That was who got the biggest account in the room.”
