Usain Bolt
laid the groundwork for a box-office clash in Beijing next month between
the superstar of the sport and its chief villain Justin Gatlin as he
won his first serious 100metres of the season in 9.87 seconds despite a
sodden track in London.
The
Jamaican superstar then watched his friend Mo Farah, who he has
defended in the wake of the doping storm surrounding coach Alberto
Salazar, ease to a stunning 3,000m victory.
Farah
has never lost at the Olympic Stadium, where he made history by doing
the distance double at London 2012. He received the loudest cheers of
the night and won in 7min 34.66sec, before mimicking Bolt’s trademark
archer celebration.
