Rochas - Subtle Farmers' Wives

 

Many designers in Europe have been showing peasant dresses on their catwalks, though nobody with such assurance and inventiveness as Marco Zanini at Rochas, whose latest collection for the Paris house was the latest reminder of this Italian creator's considerable potential.

"Les Merveilles Nuages," or Marvelous Clouds, read the lettering on one silk shirt in this collection sent out in a looming north Paris atelier on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and under Zanini a once sleepy house is gathering steam, a quiet sensation winning attention and business.

As a designer, Zanini is a little like a jazz musician in that he knows fashion's visual scores so well he can play stylistic variations on them. His selection of peasant dresses were sculpted at the torso and gathered below the waist in ways that were that bit smarter and fresher than any of the rural styles seen on scores of runways.

For next spring, Rochas offers women widow dresses cut below the knee and worn with black knee socks, flat front hemp jackets or suits in naive architectural prints. Inspired by Sweden, though with a dose of 18the century France thrown in, the collection was frumpy with an edge, high-end subsistence farmer chic. Pretty well every look was strong and convincing, as Zanini cut, draped and edited the fabric, working a theme he knew inside out. Raised in Milan, Zanini has an Italian father and Swedish mother.

With blue rimmed eyes and shiny arty hairpins, the models looked elegantly hip, effortless chic; exactly the sort of image that Rochas is happy to be winning under the sure hand and eye of Zanini. There is now a buzz about Rochas, suggesting Zanini might just be about to become the next fashion star.

Paris Fashion Week

  Balmain added a little Americana to spring/summer 2011, taking its signature rocker chic aesthetic and fusing it with love-worn stars and stripes, as modelled by Vogue cover girl Freja Beha Erichsen. Balenciaga's star model contingent, which included Stella Tennant and Gisele, walked in a show that was all about futurism, while Zac Posen made his Paris debut, his statement-making collection proving himself as an ample Parisian player.

Last night also saw French Vogue host a party to celebrate its 90th anniversary, with star-studded guests including Natalia Vodinova, Kate Moss and her boyfriend Jamie Hince.

Roland Mouret begins the day, ahead of Dior which takes place in the Tuilleries at 2.30pm this afternoon. Isabel Marant and Lanvin will continue the proceedings, neatly rounded-up by Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto this evening.

Kampuni ya Simu za Mkononi ya Vodacom Tanzania, imezindua huduma mpya ya Intaneti ambayo itawawezesha wateja wake kuchati kwa intaneti bure.
Mkurugenzi wa Uhusiano wa Vodacom Tanzania, Bi Mwamvita Makamba alisema jana kwamba wateja wa Vodacom sasa wanaweza kuchati bure kwenye tovuti za Face Book, the Grid na Vodamail.
Alisema Vodacom Tanzania inatoa huduma hiyo kwa lengo la kuwawezesha wateja wake kupata muda wa kuchati zaidi.
Alifafanua kwamba hayo yote yatawezekana kwa kutumia mtandao wa 3G ambao una kasi na nguvu kubwa.
“Tunapenda wateja wetu watumie mtandao wetu kwa kuwasiliana bure na hivyo kukata kiu yao ya mawasiliano”.
Alitoa wito kwa wateja wa Vodacom na Watanzania kwa ujumla kutumia huduma hiyo ya mtandao wa Intaneti.
Aliwaomba Watanzania kujiunga na Vodacom ili kupata huduma hiyo bure na hivyo kuwasiliana zaidi.
Alisema huduma hiyo itapatikana kwa simu za mkononi na pia kwa Laptop zilizounganishwa na USB Moderm.
