Jay Z captures a moment in time in his Made in America documentary. After premiering at the Toronto Film Festival
last month, the 95-minute film, which was shot during the inaugural
festival in Philadelphia in 2012, aired last night on Showtime.
Produced by Jay Z and directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard,
the all-access backstage pass features performances and interviews with
a diverse lineup of artists including D’Angelo, The Hives, Odd Future,
Rita Ora, Pearl Jam, Jill Scott, Kanye West, and Jay Z.
In one emotional scene, the Roc Nation mogul returned to his old apartment at 560 State Street and looked across to his new digs at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Janelle Monáe reflects on her humble beginnings and then hits the
stage for a thrilling performance of “Tightrope,” while Beyoncé and Jay Z
become fans as they rock out to sets by Gary Clark, Jr. and Run-D.M.C.
