Kendrick Lamar may not be king of New York
(depending on who you ask), but he is king of this year’s BET Hip-Hop
Awards. The Compton MC reigns over the nominations for this year’s
show.
Kendrick scored a whopping 14 nominations including Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year, and Album of the Year for his debut good kid, m.A.A.d city.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of it,” said Kendrick following the
announcement. “For the most part, BET always acknowledges my talent and
I always hold that as an honor, so I’m blessed.”
Drake follows with 13 nominations, while J. Cole earns 10 nods.
In the Album of the Year category, the nominees include Kendrick’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, J. Cole’s Born Sinner, Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, Nas’ Life Is Good, and Wale’s The Gifted.
Snoop Dogg will host this year’s show, which tapes on September 28 at
Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center and premieres October
15 at 8 p.m.
