VH1 celebrated do-gooders at the 2013 Do Something! Awards at The Avalon in Hollywood last night. Celebrities including Jennifer Hudson, LL Cool J, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kelly Osbourne, and Patrick Dempsey were honored for their social change leadership, while J. Cole and Sara Barailes provided the evening’s soundtrack.
J. Cole performed “Crooked Smile” with Jennifer Hudson, who filled in
for TLC. “Performing with j cole was like performing with prince to
me. He’s such a good guy. So honored!” tweeted J-Hud.
Ne-Yo honored an emotional
Jennifer for the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which she and her
sister Julia created to honor Jennifer’s late nephew.
“It warms my heart to see so many blessed from our blessings in honor
of my nephew,” said a teary-eyed Jennifer, who dedicated the award to
her sister. “It’s one thing to be a celebrity, but it means nothing if
you can’t help somebody.”
Queen Latifah and Russell Simmons paid tribute to LL Cool J, who started a basketball tournament and summer athletic camp for youth in his native Queens, New York.
